Awaodori

The Origins of A Traditional Japanese Dance
Awa Odori(Awa Dance) is one of the most famous Japanese festivals and traditional performing arts, with its history of more than 430 years. People living in Tokushima are proud of Awa Odori, and it attracts people from all over the world who come to experience it. Awa Odori has changed during its long history, and it is still evolving as an art. When you know the history of Awa Odori, then you can understand its attraction more and more.

Awa Odori Festival Hall (Awa Odori Kaikan in Japanese) is a facility for tourists, which presents the attraction of Awa Odori, one of the greatest traditional performing arts in Japan. Tokushima City’s Awa Odori Festival is held between the 12th and 15th of August every year - however, we would like people from all over the world to enjoy Awa Odori all year round. This was the reason Awa Odori Festival Hall was established in July of 1999, at the base of Mt. Bizan, which is a symbol of Tokushima City. You can enjoy a dynamic Awa Odori performance during the day or evening, learn about the history and culture of Awa Odori at the museum, or participate in some Awa Odori workshops or events at the Media Square. Awa Odori Festival Hall is the perfect place for enjoying Awa Odori.
