Exploring the Sake Breweries of Nada
Nada is the Japan's largest sake producing area. "Nadagogo", the five sake-producing districts is well known in Japan and internationally as some of the best in the world. A mix of high-quality rice, a perfect brewing climate, easy access to natural mountain water and centuries of practice have made Nada’s name in the production of rice wine, Sake.
This area has long been home to a number of sake breweries as the area is blessed with hard water called Miya-mizu that contains a lot of minerals perfect for sake brewing, as well as produces Yamada Nishiki rice, the top brand rice for sake. Nada's sake is generally dry with a slightly strong acidity, and its taste ranges from the intensely flavored "Otoko-zake (male sake)" when it is newly brewed to the more mature tasting "Akibare (fine fall weather)."
With so many premier breweries a stone’s throw away from one another, the best way to experience Nada sake is by walking.
