The Amalfi of Japan
Saikazaki is called as the Amalfi of Japan. The houses lined up along the steep terrain certainly looked like Amalfi. In fact, there are ports with this kind of terrain all over Japan, but it may be rare to see such a beautiful and dense scene. As we entered a narrow alley, we found an old man climbing up a steep staircase. He looked so strong and strong-legged that he didn’t seem to have any connection with the word “bedridden”. In the fishing village, there was a women’s clothing shop, a barber shop, a takoyaki (octopus dumpling) shop, and other nostalgic subjects with the atmosphere of the Showa era.
Designated as a special region of Setonaikai National Park, it is a beautiful cape and is also recognized as the best coast in the New Japanese Tourist Spots Top 100. The coast is made of special greenish-colored stones and rocks called bluestone. It has been appreciated as a great scenic spot since a long time ago. The west extremity of the cape is called "Bandoko no Hana (the nose of Bandoko)" where a garden is located. On top of that, the view of sunset and the islands of Seto Inland Sea from Saikazaki Lighthouse is extraordinary. Since there are many beautiful scenery spots, it is a popular fishing area as well.
