The castle town with bullfighting
Uwajima is located south-west of Ehime Prefecture. This area faces Uwa Sea where located between Kyushu and Shikoku Island. The seaside of this area is ria coast. Therefore, fish industry is ver strong and has great sea products, especially Jako, minced fish. Eastern side is surrounded with mountains. Therefore, it has great nature spots for hiking.
Uwajima also has Uwajima castle, built in 1601, remains undamaged to this day and it is designated as an important cultural property. Uwajima city has developed as a castle town, therefore it has a lot of historic sites in the city with local delicacies such as Taimeshi, the rice with minced bream and Jakoten, fried Kamaboko. Uwajima is very famous for bullfighting, which competitions are periodically held five times a year including a New Year competition in January and a fall competition in October, attracting many tourists.
